Why Your Skin Feels Different in Every Season — And How to Adapt Your Ritual

Your skin is not static. It responds to temperature, humidity, air quality, and light — shifting its behaviour with every season. If your body care ritual stays the same year-round, you're likely under-serving your skin for at least half of it.

Here's what's actually happening to your skin across the seasons, and how to adapt the WRTH ritual accordingly.

Spring: Transition and Renewal

As temperatures rise and humidity returns, your skin begins to shed the protective adaptations it built over winter. Cell turnover accelerates, which can cause temporary congestion or uneven texture as the old layer makes way for the new.

What your skin needs: Lighter hydration, gentle exfoliation support, and antioxidant protection as UV exposure increases.

Ritual adjustment: Continue layering serum and oil, but use a slightly lighter hand with the oil. Focus the mist on areas that feel reactive or uneven. This is a good season to introduce the WRTH Sugar Scrub before your shower to support cell turnover.

Summer: Heat, Humidity, and UV Stress

In summer, your skin produces more sebum and retains surface moisture more easily — but UV exposure, air conditioning, and sweat create a different kind of stress. The skin barrier can become compromised from sun exposure, and dehydration (distinct from dryness) becomes a real concern.

What your skin needs: Lightweight hydration, antioxidant defence, and barrier repair after sun exposure.

Ritual adjustment: Prioritise the serum — its humectant base is ideal for humid conditions where a heavy oil might feel uncomfortable. Use the mist throughout the day as a refreshing, hydrating reset. Apply oil in the evening rather than the morning for a richer overnight treatment.

Autumn: Preparation and Protection

Autumn is the most important season for skin care investment. As temperatures drop and indoor heating begins, the skin starts losing moisture more rapidly. This is the time to rebuild your barrier before winter depletes it.

What your skin needs: Richer hydration, barrier-strengthening lipids, and increased nourishment — particularly on exposed areas like hands, arms, and legs.

Ritual adjustment: Increase your oil application — use slightly more, and take longer to press it in. Add a second mist application in the evening. Pay particular attention to elbows, knees, and shins, which lose moisture fastest as the air dries out.

Winter: Deep Nourishment and Barrier Repair

Cold air holds less moisture, and indoor heating strips what little remains. The result is a compromised skin barrier that struggles to retain hydration — leading to tightness, flaking, and sensitivity. This is when your ritual matters most.

What your skin needs: Maximum hydration, occlusive protection, and consistent barrier support.

Ritual adjustment: Never skip the oil in winter. Apply serum to damp skin immediately after showering (don't let skin cool down first), follow with a generous application of oil, and mist before bed as well as in the morning. Consider keeping a small bottle of oil at your desk for midday hand and arm application.

The Ritual Stays. The Approach Adapts.

The WRTH ritual — serum, oil, mist — works in every season. What changes is the quantity, timing, and emphasis of each step. Think of it less like switching products and more like adjusting the volume: turning up the richness in winter, dialling back to lightness in summer.
